The minimum thickness for a decorative hearth is 12mm for most stoves.
Most hearths tend to be made 20-30mm thickness.
This measurement can seem confusing. All Stove companies must comply with building regulations Part J.
Part J states:-
The minimum distance from a Wood Burning Stove door for a log burner is 225mm.*
The minimum distance from a Multi-fuel Stove door is 300mm.*
*Some stoves will require more than the above stated distance. This is because the most stringent distance of either Part J or the Manufacturers recommendations must be complied with. Always check the Manufacturer’s Instructions.
The minimum size as per Document/Part J is 840x840x12mm.
